TP-Link Tapo S110E is a miniature relay module that allows you to integrate traditional electrical devices with your Smart Home system. The main advantage of this model is that it supports two relay operating modes:

Wet Contact Mode (Voltage Contact): In this mode, the relay operates like a classic wall switch. When activated, it outputs current from its contacts (e.g., 230V from the mains) and directly powers the connected device. This mode is used to control standard lighting, standard sockets, or electric underfloor heating.

Dry Contact Mode (Potential-Free Contact): In this mode, the relay itself does not send any voltage to the device. It acts solely like a physical "jumper" or doorbell button – it simply shorts or opens a circuit in which current flows from another source. This is a safe solution for controlling sensitive electronics, such as motherboards in garage door openers (where it is sufficient to short the appropriate pins), central heating furnace controllers, irrigation systems, or electric access control locks. (In the case of garage doors, the app allows for additional security with a PIN code.)
The device is equipped with a bidirectional energy measurement system – it can count the power consumption of connected devices, but also automatically detect the flow direction and monitor the energy being fed back into the grid (which is useful for things like balcony photovoltaic installations). Additionally, the switch features Zero-Crossing technology. In a household socket, current flows in a waveform – its voltage constantly increases and decreases to zero. Instead of blindly closing the circuit (which often causes a destructive spark between the relay blades), the module precisely waits for the voltage to reach exactly 0V. This "soft" switching prevents contacts from burning out and sticking, extending the module's trouble-free operation by up to 10 times. The built-in electronics also protect against overload and overheating, and in the event of any hardware failure, the app will immediately send an alert to the user.
The module communicates with the network via Wi-Fi in the 2.4 GHz band. The device has native support for the Matter system, ensuring seamless integration with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings systems. This allows for the creation of individual operating schedules and voice control via the app. The integrated Bluetooth chip not only allows for quick pairing but also allows for direct control of the relay from your phone in the event of a home router failure. Thanks to its very small dimensions (44.7 × 33.9 × 16.1 mm), the electronics easily fit in standard European flush-mounted boxes, right behind a classic wall switch.
