Ubiquiti Wave AP Gen2 – 60 GHz Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) Base Station with Antenna Output
The Ubiquiti Wave AP Gen2 (Wave-AP-Gen2) is a high-performance point-to-multipoint (PtMP) base station operating in the 60 GHz band (supported range: 57–71 GHz). The device is equipped with an integrated 90° sector antenna, which allows for servicing up to 31 clients (CPE). Thanks to 16QAM modulation, the device offers a combined throughput of 5.4 Gbps (2.7 Gbps symmetrical), enabling the construction of high-speed access networks with a range of up to 6 km (0.9 km for Wave Pico and 6 km for Wave Pro / Long-Range).
One of the new features of this version is a modified 5 GHz backup radio module, operating in the WiFi 6 (802.11ax) standard. Unlike the basic models, the Wave AP Gen2 features physical antenna connectors that allow for the connection of external antennas for the 5 GHz band. This allows for maintaining a stable backup link at distances where integrated antennas would be insufficient if the 60 GHz signal quality deteriorates.
The device is designed to fully utilize available radio bandwidth. Network interfaces include one 2.5 GbE RJ45 port and a 10 Gbps SFP+ slot. Smooth packet processing is ensured by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, supported by 512 MB of RAM.
The device is equipped with a Passive PoE power supply. The station accepts a wide range of input voltages: standard 48V (44–54 V DC) and voltages typical of legacy 24V (22–27 V DC) installations. The entire unit is housed in an aluminum alloy and UV-resistant polycarbonate enclosure that meets the IPX6 water and dust resistance standard. Management is performed via the UISP platform, which uses a built-in GPS receiver and Wave AI algorithms to optimize connections.
