Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Alarm (USL-Smoke)
The Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Alarm is a smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detector designed for home use. It communicates via the SuperLink protocol and fully integrates with the UniFi Protect platform, offering notifications, automation, and a built-in 85 dB alarm siren.
Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Alarm – Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (USL-Smoke)
Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Alarm (USL-Smoke) is a battery-powered smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detector designed exclusively for residential use. The device utilizes the proprietary SuperLink wireless communication protocol operating in the Sub-GHz band (865.1–869.5 MHz frequencies for Europe). This technology delivers superior signal penetration, interference resistance, and a range of up to 2 kilometers. To take full advantage of networking and automation capabilities, a dedicated SuperLink Gateway is required.
The sensor integrates with the UniFi Protect app and Alarm Manager. Upon detecting a threat, the system triggers a built-in 85 dB siren (measured at 3 meters) and sends instant alert notifications. It can also trigger automated responses, such as activating external UniFi sirens, turning on smart lighting (Protect Lights), or aiming PTZ cameras at the incident location. Core detection functions and the primary acoustic alarm operate fully independently, ensuring household safety even if the SuperLink connection is lost. Through the mobile or web app, users can remotely silence the alarm (after confirming the absence of danger) and monitor device status in real time, including tamper alerts and low battery warnings.
The device is designed for surface mounting on ceilings or walls and is not intended as a direct replacement for existing hardwired (AC) smoke alarms in electrical junction boxes. When mounted on a flat ceiling, the detector should be positioned at least 50 cm away from any wall, while for wall installations, it must be located no more than 30 cm below the ceiling. Mounting procedures for sloped or vaulted ceilings vary by region. In the European Union (with ceiling slopes exceeding 20°), the sensor must be positioned 50 to 100 cm from the apex of the roof. In the United States, guidelines recommend maintaining a minimum 10 cm vertical distance from the peak and a maximum 91 cm horizontal distance from the center of the vault. The alarm is certified for a 10-year service life, after which the entire unit must be replaced to ensure sensor reliability. The device utilizes a dual-power architecture: the battery powering the SuperLink wireless connectivity (CR123A) is replaceable, while the cell powering the smoke and CO sensors themselves (L91) is permanently integrated and engineered to last the entire 10-year product lifespan.

Ubiquiti Smoke and CO Alarm – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The Smoke and CO Alarm should not be installed in place of existing hardwired alarms. The device is surface-mounted on a ceiling or wall and is not intended for direct installation over a flush junction box. Therefore, you should plan a new mounting location while leaving existing hardwired detectors intact—the Ubiquiti sensor enhances your setup with monitoring, notifications, and automations within UniFi Protect.
The Smoke and CO Alarm is certified for residential use only. It is recommended to install detectors on every floor of the building and in every bedroom / sleeping area. Detailed guidelines for optimal placement can be found in the installation guide.
Yes. With full UniFi Protect integration, the alarm works seamlessly with the Alarm Manager to trigger automated workflows upon threat detection, such as:
- Sounding external UniFi Sirens
- Activating UniFi Protect Lights
- Automatically orienting PTZ cameras toward the event for instant visual verification
The Smoke and CO Alarm has a certified operating life of up to 10 years. After this period, the entire unit must be replaced to ensure the smoke and carbon monoxide sensors maintain optimal precision and reliability.
First, identify the type of alarm being sounded:
- Fire / Smoke Alarm: Check the premises for smoke or active flames and follow standard fire safety procedures.
- Carbon Monoxide (CO) Alarm: Immediately ventilate the area, evacuate all occupants to fresh air, and follow your household safety plan and product manual.
The sensor continuously streams diagnostic data to the UniFi Protect app. Through the Alarm Manager, it generates alerts for low battery levels, enclosure tampering or removal attempts, and approaching end-of-life status.
Yes. The device includes a user-replaceable CR123A battery that powers the SuperLink wireless communication module. The battery powering the smoke and CO detection sensors is sealed inside the unit and provides up to 10 years of continuous operation.
Yes. The alarm siren can be silenced remotely using the UniFi Protect mobile or web application. Before silencing the alarm, always ensure that there is no active danger to life or property.
Yes. Core smoke and CO detection features, as well as the built-in audible siren, operate 100% autonomously without requiring an active SuperLink connection. Network connectivity is only required for push notifications and remote silencing capabilities.
The device leverages proprietary SuperLink connectivity operating in the sub-GHz frequency band. It delivers a line-of-sight range of up to 2 km (1.2 miles), offering exceptional penetration through walls and floors along with high resilience against RF interference across large residential properties.
