UniFi WAN Switch (USW‑WAN) is purpose-built to provide WAN high availability within the UniFi ecosystem. It supports the Shadow Mode HA architecture, where both a primary and a backup UniFi gateway are connected in parallel to the same WAN uplink. If the primary gateway fails, the backup immediately takes over traffic flow, and USW‑WAN guarantees uninterrupted internet connectivity via automatic failover. This ensures continuity of service even under fault conditions.

The USW‑WAN features three 10G SFP+ ports and one 1G Ethernet port, offering versatile connectivity options for both fiber and copper uplinks. A non-blocking switching capacity of 20 Gbps and full 10 Gbps line rate switching ensures maximum performance and zero packet loss. Operating as a Layer 2 switch, the device introduces minimal complexity and latency to WAN deployments.

Fully integrated with UniFi OS, the USW‑WAN is managed via the UniFi Network application, enabling centralized configuration and monitoring. High Availability deployments use UniFi’s built-in VRRP protocol, and the setup is streamlined and intuitive.
