Ubiquiti UNAS Pro 4 – 1U Rack NAS File Server with 10G Ports
Ubiquiti UNAS Pro 4 (UNAS-Pro-4) is a 1U rackmount network-attached storage (NAS) server designed for high-speed data storage and sharing. Primary storage is provided by four internal drive bays supporting standard 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs. The device is additionally equipped with two M.2 NVMe SSD slots (supporting capacities up to 4 TiB) that function as a high-speed SSD cache, significantly reducing latency and accelerating access to frequently read data.
A quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz, paired with 8 GB of RAM, ensures stability and smooth file system management. To prevent bottlenecks during large-scale transfers, the server features two 10G SFP+ fiber ports and one 1 GbE RJ45 port. The device allows creating disk arrays in RAID 5, 6, and 10 configurations, offering native support for widely used file sharing protocols: NFS and SMB.
The server software includes comprehensive data protection and management mechanisms. This includes hardware file encryption, snapshot support, and full compatibility with Apple Time Machine. Administrators can easily configure automated backups to remote UNAS servers, external CIFS/SMB shares, or directly to cloud services (such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Amazon S3, Dropbox, or Wasabi). For enhanced protection against power failures, the built-in 150W AC power supply (with a 125W budget dedicated solely to drives) works alongside an additional DC backup power connector, fully compatible with the USP-RPS redundancy system. The 6.7 kg chassis is made of durable SGCC steel.
Key Features:
-
Storage Capacity: 4x 2.5" / 3.5" drive bays (HDD/SSD) with a dedicated 125W power budget.
-

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Ubiquiti UNAS Pro 4
Yes. UNAS Pro 4 secures files using RAID redundancy and scheduled snapshots, which allow you to restore previous versions of files. It also supports backups to other UNAS devices via the SMB/CIFS protocol, as well as backups to popular cloud storage services such as:
- Google Drive
- OneDrive
- Dropbox
- Amazon S3
- Backblaze B2
- Wasabi
Yes. UNAS Pro 4 supports volume/drive encryption to reliably protect data privacy and security.
Yes. UNAS Pro 4 supports hot-swappable HDDs, allowing you to replace a failed drive with a new one without interrupting system operation. The number of drives that can be replaced simultaneously depends on the RAID level: one for RAID 5 and two for RAID 6.
Yes. You can access files on UNAS Pro 4 via UniFi Site Manager or by connecting directly over the SMB protocol using the UniFi Drive desktop application. For remote access, use the Identity Endpoint app (available for desktop and mobile systems), which provides free, license-free connectivity from anywhere.
UNAS Pro 4 requires at least one drive installed to complete the initial setup. For advanced data protection using RAID arrays, you must install two or more drives to configure RAID 5, RAID 6, or RAID 10.
For data protection, UNAS Pro 4 supports RAID 5, RAID 6, and RAID 10 array configurations.
UNAS Pro 4 supports SMB (including CIFS) and NFS protocols, enabling simple and seamless file sharing across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
Yes. UNAS Pro 4 supports integration with Apple Time Machine for seamless macOS system backups.
Yes. UNAS Pro 4 supports AD/LDAP integration for user import. Once imported, AD accounts can be used for SMB protocol access. For LDAP users, file service credentials must be generated so users can manually map SMB shares or use Time Machine backups.
SSD Caching on UNAS Pro 4 boosts performance during random access operations. Typical deployment scenarios include:
- Simultaneous file access from multiple computers in office environments
- Virtualization workload management
- Media editing workflows requiring frequent file reads
- Handling high IOPS demands in database applications
The more concurrent and frequent the data access, the greater the performance benefit from SSD cache. To ensure stable performance and prevent premature drive wear, sequential access is bypassed by default to help prolong SSD lifespan.
Yes. UNAS Pro 4 supports third-party M.2 NVMe SSDs, allowing you to configure an SSD Cache of up to 1 TB. Installing drives into the M.2 slots requires a dedicated SSD tray.
UNAS Pro 4 requires one SSD for a read-only cache configuration. For a read-write cache configuration, two SSDs are required to ensure redundancy via RAID 1.
