TP-Link Tapo C465 is a fully wireless, outdoor security camera equipped with an integrated solar panel. The device records images in 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels), allowing for trouble-free license plate reading and facial recognition from greater distances. Thanks to the Starlight sensor and bright lens (F1.65), the camera offers color night vision even in very low light conditions, and in complete darkness, it uses a classic infrared illuminator (IR 850 nm) and two built-in LED illuminators.
The camera has a built-in 7800 mAh lithium-ion battery and a solar panel integrated into the top of the housing. The design allows for free adjustment of the panel (45° tilt and 360° rotation on the lens ring), making it easier to aim at the sun. The manufacturer states that under optimal conditions, just 50 minutes of full sunlight is enough to power the camera for a full day. In cloudy winter conditions, a fully charged battery allows for up to 180 days of operation without recharging. However, please note that the battery charging temperature should be maintained between 0°C and 45°C.
The Tapo C465 is equipped with local artificial intelligence that allows for free and instant recognition of people, vehicles, and pets, reducing false alerts (e.g., from moving branches). Additionally, users can choose between a 2.4 GHz network for better range or a 5 GHz network for smooth 4K video streaming.
The camera also offers two recording options. The basic and free method is local recording on a microSD card (the built-in, sealed slot supports media up to 512 GB; card not included). The device can also be used with optional Tapo H500 control units, allowing for centralized recording on high-capacity hard drives. Alternatively, you can use a paid Tapo Care cloud subscription, which provides encrypted online backups.
The camera is mounted to the facade using a convenient, ball-shaped magnetic base. To mitigate the risk of the device being quickly stolen from the magnetic mount, it is equipped with a physical security cable. An intruder's attempt to remove the camera activates a hardware anti-sabotage alarm (built-in siren with a volume of up to 100 dBA), and an immediate notification is sent to the owner's smartphone.
