MikroTik CRS804 DDQ – CRS804-4DDQ-hRM
MikroTik CRS804 DDQ (CRS804-4DDQ-hRM) is a compact 400G network switch designed for AI clusters, ultra-high-speed storage networks, and traffic aggregation in high-performance infrastructures. The device delivers full line-rate performance on all ports and stands out with an exceptionally attractive price-to-performance ratio in the ultra-fast switching segment. It provides a practical and cost-effective way to deploy 400 Gigabit Ethernet while preparing the network for future scalability requirements.
CRS804 DDQ is well suited as a core component of small to mid-scale AI/GPU clusters. It ensures predictable, low-latency communication and full switching throughput, eliminating bottlenecks between GPU nodes and storage systems. Thanks to its compact form factor and relatively low power consumption, it is suitable for AI laboratories, research environments, and installations with limited rack space.
The switch performs efficiently in modern all-flash storage networks. Native 400G ports can be used as ultra-fast uplinks to storage arrays, and when required, they can be split using the break-out function into two 200G links. This approach directly addresses environments that require rapid transfer of large data volumes, such as media production or scientific workloads.
CRS804 DDQ can also operate as a core or aggregation switch even within existing, older rack infrastructures. Each 400G QSFP-DD port consists of eight independent data lanes, enabling flexible break-out options, including splitting a single port into two 200G or four 100G/40G connections. With appropriate break-out cables, the switch can be connected to virtually any device equipped with SFP/SFP+ or QSFP/QSFP+ ports, regardless of generation. This allows CRS804 DDQ to be integrated into current infrastructures today and gradually upgraded to higher speeds without replacing the device.
The device also enables the creation of a high-performance spine network based on four 400G ports, even in space-constrained environments. CRS804 DDQ is suitable for compact data centers, dedicated enterprise clusters (enterprise pods), and edge deployments—anywhere traditional 400G hardware would be too large, too noisy, or too costly.
At the core of CRS804 DDQ is the advanced Marvell 98DX7335 switching ASIC, supported by a quad-core ARM AL52400 processor clocked at 2.0 GHz and 4 GB of DDR4 RAM. This combination provides advanced traffic control, high switching performance, and support for extensive networking features within the familiar RouterOS v7 environment. The device includes a RouterOS Level 6 license, offering unrestricted access to advanced services such as routing, BGP tables, VPN tunnels, and full configuration flexibility.
CRS804 DDQ is characterized by high reliability and low operating cost. It is equipped with two redundant hot-swap power supplies (100–240 V AC) that can be replaced without powering down the device, ensuring continuous operation even if one power source fails. A pair of modular hot-swap cooling fans maintains optimal internal temperatures while generating less noise than typical solutions in this class. Maximum power consumption is only 123 W (under full load with optical modules installed), which—combined with the compact 1U enclosure—makes CRS804 DDQ a highly efficient and practical switch even in dense server environments. A dedicated mounting kit is included, allowing two CRS804 switches to be installed side by side within a single 1U slot of a standard 19-inch rack.
