TP-Link Tapo T100 is a miniature, passive infrared (PIR) sensor designed for motion detection in home automation systems and simple alarm installations. The device monitors an area with a 120° viewing angle at a maximum distance of up to 7 meters. The user can programmatically adjust the sensor's sensitivity (selectable detection range: 3, 5, or 7 meters), allowing them to adjust the coverage area and eliminate false alarms, such as those generated by pets moving across the floor. The sensor head is mounted on a ball-and-socket joint, making it easier to physically frame the monitoring zone after mounting the base to the wall.

Similar to buttons and other sensors in this series, the Tapo T100 does not connect directly to your home Wi-Fi router. For proper operation, the Tapo Hub (e.g., the H100 model) is absolutely required. Communication is based on an energy-efficient radio protocol operating in the Sub-GHz band (868 MHz in the European market). This solution ensures a stable signal resistant to interference from traditional Wi-Fi networks and allows the sensor to be powered by a single CR2450 coin-cell battery, which lasts for up to 2 years of trouble-free operation (assuming approximately 50 detections per day).

The device serves a dual function in the Smart Home system. Firstly, it can function as a simple alarm system – in "Away" mode, motion detection immediately triggers the hub's built-in siren and sends a push notification to the user's phone. Secondly, it acts as a building automation trigger (Smart Actions), automatically turning on smart light bulbs or powering sockets when a household member enters a room. Its compact size allows for versatile, non-invasive installation. The sensor can be attached to a wall or ceiling using the included tape, placed loosely on a shelf, or quickly attached to metal surfaces thanks to the built-in magnets in the base.
