TP-Link Tapo D205 is a fully wireless video intercom, designed to monitor entrances without the need for any cables. The device records images in 2K resolution (2304 × 1296 pixels at 15 frames per second) using a 1/2.8" CMOS sensor. The lens offers a very wide field of view of 160° diagonally (145° horizontally and 83° vertically). This optics allows for the entire silhouette of a person standing in front of the door, as well as packages left on the doormat. After dark, the intercom switches to black and white night mode, illuminating the scene using infrared diodes (850 nm) with an effective range of up to 7.6 meters.

Power is provided by a built-in 5200 mAh lithium-ion battery, which, according to the manufacturer, lasts for a maximum of 180 days on a single charge. The USB-C charging port is located on the bottom of the housing, allowing for emergency charging of the intercom using a standard power bank, without the need for a charger. The device is mounted in an IP54-rated enclosure, which means it's resistant to rain, dust, and temperatures ranging from -20°C to 45°C.

Motion detection is handled by a hardware infrared (PIR) sensor that works with built-in artificial intelligence algorithms. The device can recognize a human silhouette and ignore irrelevant movement, significantly reducing the number of false notifications. One of the conveniences is the direct call function – when a visitor presses the button, the intercom "rings" the user's smartphone like a standard phone call, allowing for a quick conversation (two-way audio). If there's no time for a longer conversation, the user can play one of the pre-prepared, quick voice messages.

The intercom connects to the home router via the 2.4 GHz band (Wi-Fi 4). Events can be recorded on a local microSD card with a capacity of up to 512 GB (the slot is located on the device, the card is not included) or in the Tapo Care cloud (paid subscription required). This model does not require an additional hub to operate and integrates seamlessly with the Tapo ecosystem. Owners of Tapo Hubs (H100, H200, H500 models) or smart speakers (Amazon Echo, Google Nest) can use them as indoor doorbells. The device offers various mounting options – it can be screwed to a wall or attached using double-sided tape, and the included angle wedge facilitates optimal lens framing.
